Confederation College Raises over $40,000 for its Students, Stock the Bank and other Community Charities

THUNDER BAY, ON, December 5, 2022 – “Stock the Bank” returned to Confederation College this holiday season. The annual internal fundraiser raised $40,256 through donations, product sales and department competitions. The funds are in support of the Emergency Student Fund, Food Bank, community charities and other school initiatives at the College.

“I am so proud of our college community and the generosity and care they show each year during the Stock the Bank initiative,” said Kathleen Lynch, Confederation College President. “The past few years have been difficult and unpredictable for many; it is amazing to see our staff and students come together for a worthy cause and support each other and our community.”

The total amount raised includes $30,070 to support Confederation College initiatives and other community charities and $7,304 to Stock the Bank in support of the College’s Emergency Student Fund, which includes the Food Bank. Nearly 9,000 food items were collected to fill the shelves of the College’s Food Bank for students in need. Over the past 15 years, Stock the Bank has seen a total contribution of $215,509 and over 90,000 food items to the Emergency Student Fund and Food Bank.

“The sense of community is strong at Confederation College,” said Ronnie Kasana, Student Union President. “When we work together, we are able to achieve great things. The donations from staff and students will help reduce hunger and eliminate food insecurities for people in crisis. We are so happy to have the opportunity to help when it is most needed.”

Employee donations of up to three hours’ pay and a friendly fundraising/food collection competition between departments also played an important role in the final numbers for this year’s event. This year’s winning departments, which are each allotted $150 to give to their charity of choice, include:

• Large Team Category: Regional Workforce Development, NEW, Contract Training and Academic Upgrading, who donated their prize to Shelter House Thunder Bay

• Small Team Category: Facilities Services & Best Cleaners, Public Safety & Children and Family Center, who donated their prize to Community Care Bus

• Academic Category: School of Engineering, Technology, Trades & Aviation, who donated their prize to the Alzheimer’s Society
