William "Bill" J. Black Sr.

William "Bill" James Black Sr., 57 of Grand Forks and the Spirit Lake Nation, North Dakota began his journey to the Spirit World on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

The Wake for Bill will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at St. Michael's Recreation Center beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday from City Plaza, Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Reverend Paul Schuster celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.

Bill was born on June 16, 1965 in Devils Lake ND, the son of Charles Jr. and Mary Evelyn (Gourd) Black. He grew up in St. Michael and graduated from the Little Flower School in St. Michael. He attended and graduated from Warwick High School. There he enjoyed basketball with his brothers Bennett Black, Sr. and Craig Scott Black. He attended classes at Little Hoop Community College.

Bill worked various jobs including Mission Bay, Spirit Lake Casino and Resort Security and was an officer for the Fort Totten Police Department.

Bill enjoyed fishing, running a fireworks stand, Bingo, poker, listening to country music, playing cards, spending time with his family and friends and was a very active member of Facebook. Bill enjoyed visiting with everyone. His warm and gentle smile will be missed by many.

Bill is survived by his children Dennis Chaske, William Black Jr., Danae Black, Rabecca Black, Dalton Black and Haley Black; grandchildren Noah, Apple, and Gigi Chaske, Harper and Nico Peltier, Olivia and Parker IronHawk and a granddaughter on the way; brother Claude Black Sr.; sister Sharon Black; aunt Carol Black; uncle Jim Baker; nieces Sarah, Heaven and Nicole (Trestan) Demarce, Penny (Matt) Friesen, Iris, Ivory and Cylah Black, Megan and Dagny Black, Terri, Whitney, Tasha and Danica Black, Gabrielle Mason; nephews Brandon Black, Craig Black Jr., Joe Cavanaugh, J.R. Black, Rick Black Jr., Cameron Black, Alex Leben, P.J. Mudgett, Nevada Littlewind, Bennett Black Jr., Anferny and Evan Black; god-child Nicole Demarce; many cousins and friends also survive.

Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary, brothers Richard Black Sr., Charles Black III, Bennett Black Sr., and Craig Black, sister Connie Black, grandparents Charles and Josephine Black Sr., Michael and Emma Gourd and Cordelia Little, uncles Peter Black and Donald Black, nephews Sheldon Black and Parker Mudgett.

Active Pallbearers are Trestan Demarce, Dustin Black, Curtis Black, Claude Black, P.J. Mudgett, Carl "Sparky" McKay Jr., Bennett Black Jr. and Evan Black.
