Bemidji, MN—November 3, 2022: After being open for more than two months, the public comment portal for citizens to provide feedback on the 7 options being considered for the future of the Beltrami County Jail closed on October 31st, 2022. The results can be viewed here:

The survey also sought feedback on potential funding sources for a jail project. When asked how likely individuals would be to support a local option sales tax, the responses were as follows: 143 said Very likely, 121 said Likely, 58 said Neither likely or unlikely, 29 said unlikely, 57 said Very unlikely. When asked how likely individuals would be to support an increase in property taxes, the results were as follows: 45 said Very likely, 89 said Likely, 69 said Neither likely or unlikely, 70 said Unlikely, 135 said Very unlikely.

Beltrami County will utilize the feedback received as it takes the next steps in addressing the County Jail’s current deficiencies and future needs. The County would like to thank all those who participated in the survey and provided this invaluable community feedback.
