Affinity Plus Opens First Mahnomen Branch

Minnesota-based credit union will support the community through improved banking resources and a partnership with Mahnomen public schools

MAHNOMEN, Minn. (October 27, 2022) – Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union (Affinity Plus) celebrated the opening of its first Mahnomen branch today, located at 341 US-59 #2, Mahnomen. In April, Affinity Plus merged with White Earth Reservation Federal Credit Union to provide northern Minnesotans with stronger financial resources.

The merger expanded the community's access to financial products including mortgages, improved rates and use of a top-rated mobile app and digital banking platform, all while maintaining local service, ownership and control. Affinity Plus also has additional branches in Bemidji and across Minnesota to serve WERFCU members.

“The wonderful community in Mahnomen has really embraced Affinity Plus since the merger and we are excited to offer them the tools they need to grow and thrive financially,” said Affinity Plus Senior Manager Sarah Kuesel. “Affinity Plus invests heavily in the communities it serves and we look forward to lending support in ways that will make an impact on local residents.”

Affinity Plus celebrated the Mahnomen branch grand opening with remarks from Kuesel, former WERFCU Board Member Christie Haverkamp and local dignitaries, a ribbon cutting, a 50” TV prize giveaway and a drum ceremony performed by Smokestack, a drum group from the White Earth Reservation.

Affinity Plus also presented a donation for $2,700 to Mahnomen Public Schools to help support business math and personal finance materials for Mahnomen high school. The funds will also enable students to start a school store as part of its business program. Beyond the financial donation, Affinity Plus Branch Leader Amanda Jaeger will serve on the Mahnomen high school’s business education advisory board to guide students in their financial education.

“Financial literacy is hugely important, and learning budgeting and financial skills young will help set Mahnomen students up for success,” Jaeger said. “I’m so happy for the opportunity to share the skills and knowledge I’ve gained as a financial professional with students and support their education through our committed partnership with Mahnomen public schools.”
