Candlelight vigil held for Nevaeh Kingbird on 1-year anniversary of her disappearance

Oct. 23—BEMIDJI — Saturday, Oct. 22, marked one year since 16-year-old Nevaeh Kingbird went missing. Friends, family and community members gathered in downtown Bemidji for a candlelight vigil to remember Kingbird and pray for her safe return.

Dozens congregated at the intersection of Sixth Street and Minnesota Avenue as the sun set on Saturday evening to hold posters, light candles and listen to a drum group in honor of the one-year anniversary of Kingbird's disappearance.

She was last seen leaving a party in the area of Carter Circle in southeast Bemidji at about 1 a.m. on Oct. 22, 2021. Kingbird was later seen leaving a second home, alone, in Southview Terrace Park, at about 2 a.m.
