FIRE PREVENTION TECHNICIAN

DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Assist with wildland fire prevention education in schools and community education programs through fairs, informational booths, powwows, parades, sporting events, social media, and news media Public Service Announcements. The RLDNR Fire Program is a Drug-Free and Alcohol-free workplace. The incumbent must submit to and pass a drug test. Work Hours: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM; Monday through Friday. Reports to Fire Prevention Specialist or Wildland Fire Operations Specialist. Full time position with benefits. Starting salary; $35,464.00 DOQ.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

• Assist with fire investigations, monitoring fire occurrences and causes, ensuring appropriate prevention and mitigation strategies are being implemented.

• Assist in conducting Firewise Home Hardening and Landscaping training.

• Perform Fire Prevention sign and Smokey Bear statue maintenance.

• Post fire danger ratings information.

• Issue burn permits.

• Public speaking and communication skills.

• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two years of firefighting or equivalent experience. (FFT1)

• High school diploma or GED, preference for A.A. degree in related field.

• Must possess a valid state driver's license and be insurable.

• Physical Fitness shall meet the NWCG Standard and WCT moderate category.
