PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Provide the operations, maintenance and repair activities of domestic water treatment systems and drainage pumping facilities. Perform the most complex duties in connection with the operation, maintenance and repair of surface and groundwater water treatment plants, water wells, water pumping stations, water storage facilities, and storm water pumping stations. Reports to Facilities Manager, full-time position with benefits, salary; DOQ.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

• Water treatment methods, principles and practices

• Enforce codes, rules and regulations pertaining to water treatment plant operations and water quality standards

• Advanced principles and tests used in the treatment of surface and ground water

• Procedures and corrective actions to respond to emergency and special operating conditions

• Operational and safety regulations pertaining to water treatment plant operations as well as vehicles and equipment

• Perform standard water quality tests

• Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, repair and maintain complex mechanical equipment

• Monitor process controls in the treatment of surface and ground water

• Perform strenuous physical labor

• Operate various types of equipment such as backhoes, front end loaders and cranes

• Read, interpret and utilize manufacturer's specifications, operations manuals, piping schematics, water system maps, plans and blueprints

• Maintain courteous and effective relationships with employees and the general public

• Use computer equipment and related peripheral equipment to enter and extract information

• Analyze and interpret work related budgets, plans, financial reports, and legal document and government regulations

• Effectively perform employee and resource scheduling, training, monitoring, evaluation and disciplinary action

• Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field

• Ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in public works and management, preferably in a municipal setting

• Experience in operation, maintenance or repair of water treatment plants, potable water pump stations, underground water distribution systems or wastewater treatment plants or other mechanical facilities with similar systems and equipment

• Possess Water Treatment Grade 2 (T2) and Water Distribution Grade 2 (D2) certificate

• Knowledgeable of state and county laws and ordinances regulating safety orders relating to electrical installations

• Excellent Communication and Mathematical skills

• Must have a valid Class "A" driver's license

• Must have knowledge of the Red Lake Reservation geography

• Employment is contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug test and background check
