PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Victim Specialist will provide quick referrals for crime victims, with a focus on Domestic Violence, Sexual Violence, and Trafficking. Work with surrounding service departments on the reservation to create a cohesive partnership to assist victims of crime. The goal will be to inform, support, and assist victims in navigating the aftermath of crime and the criminal justice process with dignity and resilience. The Victim Specialist also be given the opportunity to provide trainings and education on Trafficking and Exploitation and work with community partners to provide services to victims of crime. This position will require direct services to the community, referrals to outside agencies, assistance with outreach, and other various community needs. Reports to Victim Services Supervisor, Red Lake Department of Public Safety. Full time position with benefits, salary; $26.00 hourly.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

• In addition to above;

• Attend all departmental and tribal trainings/meetings.

• Attend all funding training, and all local and national training as required.

• Provide the first point-of-contact for Red Lake officers seeking to quickly refer a victim to services.

• Provide victim services to include, referrals to various Red Lake Community services; crime victim compensation, temporary housing referral, follow-up contact with victims.

• Develop program effectiveness assessments and surveys with input from collaborative partners.

• Prepare and submit all funding and financial reporting on-time.

• Prepare and submit data as part of all regular program narrative reports, utilizing office of Justice Program's Performance Measures Questionnaire tool.

• Perform other duties as assigned by Director deemed necessary to provide quality service.

• Help with distribution of information materials for victims of all crimes and domestic violence.

• Required following all agency policies and procedures.

• Required understanding and abiding by those Tribal Code, laws, regulations, policies and procedures that is applicable to the program/service, which is being provided.

• Required to report any known, or suspected violations of laws, regulations, policies, or procedures to the proper authorities.

• Ensure confidentiality when dealing with other employees, clients, and outside personnel

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's Degree and some experience in human service, or a High School Diploma or equivalent preferred, and at least two years' experience in human service a must. Knowledge of Rape Crisis, Domestic Violence and Crime Victims' issues is helpful.

• Must have a valid driver's license

• Background and experience of Ojibwe language and traditional Ojibwe cultural knowledge

• Ability to work closely and effectively with families, elders and children

• Must adhere to Confidentiality, Data Privacy Act

• Must abide by the Law Enforcement's code of Ethics and Confidentiality Policy

• Must be of good moral ethic and conduct

• Employment contingent upon successfully passing pre-employment/Drug/Alcohol test and background check
