Bremer Bank opens new, full-service branch on Lake Street in Minneapolis

Minneapolis, MN – Bremer Bank today announced the opening of its new, full-service branch on Lake Street in Minneapolis. In June of 2020, Bremer took an inward look to develop the first iteration of its racial equity action plan, which expanded, accelerated and more deeply invested in equity work that the bank had begun years earlier. Among other commitments, the plan included a promise to listen to and learn from local community leaders and establish a greater presence in historically underserved areas, starting with a particular focus in the Twin Cities.

In 2021, Stephen Spears was hired onto Bremer’s senior leadership team to lead the bank’s efforts to establish a greater presence to serve the Black, Indigenous, Latino, Asian, and other businesses and communities of color. Spears’ team has spent the last several months working closely with community leaders to ensure Bremer is bringing in staff with the right kind of expertise for this community, serving them in the best way possible.

“The neighborhood around our new location on East Lake Street is full of opportunity,” Spears said. “With this branch now open, we look forward to being present and engaging with this historically underrepresented community, while delivering the products and services that best fit the needs of the businesses and residents we serve.”

The new, modern location features an open floor plan with partner tables instead of traditional teller lines, promoting excellent service and stronger banker-customer relationships. It also includes a community room, available for local organizations to use free of charge both during and outside of bank hours. A ribbon cutting ceremony is expected this fall, with a grand opening community celebration planned for next year.
