Alliance for a Better Minnesota Launches Seven-Figure Ad Buy Against Scott Jensen

Highlights Jensen’s extreme position on abortion

MINNESOTA - Today, Alliance for a Better Minnesota Action Fund released their first anti-Scott Jensen TV ad of 2022. The spot features three Minnesota women reacting to Jensen in his own words as he threatens to ban abortion in Minnesota if he becomes governor.

“Scott Jensen has repeatedly threatened to ban abortion in Minnesota and even previously said that he wanted to ban abortion without exceptions for rape or incest. His extreme plan would be devastating for Minnesotans who deserve the right to control our own bodies and lives,“ said Marissa Luna, Executive Director of Alliance for a Better Minnesota Action Fund. “Abortion is essential health care. Minnesotans deserve a leader who will reduce barriers to and protect access to safe, legal abortion. Scott Jensen is wrong for Minnesota.”

In addition to the TV ad, Alliance for a Better Minnesota Action Fund released a slate of digital ads illuminating the harm Scott Jensen’s extreme anti-abortion plan would inflict on Minnesotans.

In an MPR interview in March 2022, Scott Jensen said that he would ban abortion in Minnesota without exceptions for rape or incest.

Jensen even said he’d throw a party after restricting access to abortion. In a video from a St.Thomas College Republicans meeting in December 2021, Scott Jensen said, "If I get a chance to sign a pro-life piece of legislation, we're not just going to sign it, we're going to have a party."

Scott Jensen has a long anti-choice record in the Minnesota Senate and supported legislation in 2017 with restrictive licensing guidelines for abortion facilities. And he voted to restrict access to abortions by defunding organizations that perform abortions and receive taxpayer funding.

Jensen also received a 100% rating from an extreme anti-choice organization, Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life.

Scott Jensen’s running mate, Matt Birk, is just as extreme.

In a video from June 2022 of Matt Birk speaking at a National Right to Life conference, he celebrated the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, compared safe, legal abortion to slavery, and said, "women used to not be able to vote, now we let them drive." He also reiterated that he doesn't believe that rape victims should get able to get abortions and said that "if a woman is unexpectedly pregnant, she could be the answer to someone's prayer."

In the same speech, Matt Birk promised that he and Scott Jensen would work to pass laws that ban abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest. Scott Jensen defended Birk’s comments in an interview on WCCO and praised Matt Birk’s refusal to “back off” from his extreme anti-choice positions on abortion.

Scott Jensen and Matt Birk’s extreme stances on abortion are at odds with the sixty percent of Minnesota voters who say abortion should be legal in all or most cases and sixty-five percent who oppose new severe restrictions on abortion.

Alliance for a Better Minnesota Action Fund also launched WrongForMinnesota.com to highlight Jensen’s extreme stances and out-of-touch policies on issues from abortion to education.

Your commercials come off as b.s. You put up fake people reading a teleprompter, following the statis of your president? Your story line is so fake, your characters say one thing in the first sentence then another in the 2nd. Also calling all Republicans extreme is incorrect and works against you. People don't like being called names, so you won't win any of them over to your side.

BetterMN writes:

Your ad content is fine but the production of the commercials is not so good and the people come off as weak and not beleaveable. Scrip and ad words is well done but the actors story line just seems scripted. If there is time I suggest finding a company with more experience. Sorry but being blunt and honest.

BetterMN writes:

Would not matter if Scott Jenseb revised his stance on abortion, he is against any other form or need of it, not his field of expertise, last I checked he is not a female.

Think22 writes:

I have read several articles written prior to this article that states Scott Jensen has reversed his stance on rape, incest exceptions for legal abortion. He called his responses from the initial interview earlier this year “clumsy” and has since clarified that he would allow exceptions in the event of rape, incest, mother in danger, etc.
