St. Paul, Minnesota—Today, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced his office will not challenge a recent ruling that strikes down state abortion restrictions, ensuring access to safe and legal abortion in Minnesota.
“We support the Attorney General’s decision not to appeal the case on abortion restrictions,” said Sarah Stoesz, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood North Central States. “A costly appeal with little chance of success is clearly not in the best interest of people in Minnesota. As the largest abortion provider in the state, Planned Parenthood now has the finality and legal certainty required for us to continue to provide our patients with high quality abortion care free of undue government interference. It’s extremely important that abortion remains accessible—for Minnesotans and our many neighbors who now have to travel for care—and more needs to be done. It is essential that all health systems, clinics, OB-GYN practices and health plans in Minnesota step up to make sure women can get the essential care they need. The current infrastructure of Planned Parenthood and independent abortion providers is inadequate to meet the need for care.”
