Our beloved, Jeremy William Smith, Jr., "Mashkikii Mashkawi Makwa" which means "Medicine Strong Bear" of the Bear Clan and a proud member of the Red Lake Nation was born to Denae Marie Evans and Jeremy William Smith, Sr. 26 years ago February 24th, 1996 in Bemidji, Minnesota began his journey to the spirit world on July 20th, 2022 from his home in Bemidji, MN.

Jeremy was a strong, family oriented young man. Who was aware of himself with great pride in his Native American Heritage. Brave, Creative and Curious. Jeremy loved music and always enjoyed sharing traditional music with his loved ones, as well as seeking wisdom, knowledge, and guidance. He was always wanting to learn and absorb as much knowledge as he could. To in return, given to those around him. Playful, Adventurous, and Tough. He had a long-time passion for boxing, mixed martial arts and enjoyed fulfilling work. Jeremy was very proud to have worked with his father at Red Lake Engineering and with his Bompa at Red Lake Housing doing carpentry work. He spent his summers and holidays on the Rez with his auntie Lex, family and friends. Jeremy loved openly and deeply. Jeremy is loved openly and deeply. Jeremy was a protector of everyone he cared about. He will be missed tremendously forever.

Jeremy is preceded in death by his aunts, Sharlene Martell and Gail Van Wert; great grandmothers, Joyce Snowdon and Catherine Van Wert; cousins, Blaine Martell, Jr. and December Van Wert and dear friend Frank Norris.

Those he leaves behind are his mother, Denae (Travis) Smith; father, Jeremy (Jess Ness) Smith; grandparents, Peggy Martell, Earl Mitchel, Linda and Gerald "Bompa" Lussier, and John Smith, Jr .; great grandmother, Ethel Smith; his siblings, Raslynn Evans, Schanonn Spears, Jr., Ariel Green, Dion, Derrick, Cameron, Saige and Braeden Smith, love of his life, Chelsie Lewis, countless aunts, uncles, cousins and too many friends to list.

The wake for Jeremy will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23rd and continue until his 10:00 a.m. traditional services on Monday, July 25th all being held at the Veteran's Memorial Building in Cass Lake, MN. Allen Hardy will be his Spiritual Advisor. Pallbearers will be Schanonn Spears, Jr., Sherman Martell, Alex Hazelrigg, Dion Smith, Donovan Medina, Cameron Smith, Derrick Smith and Logan Miller. His honorary pallbearers are Travis Smith, Earl Mitchell, Chase Martin, Moe Loud, Nas Van Wert, Larry Van Wert, Terry Lussier, Mikail Sather, Kasey Mason, Xavier Mason, Casey Mason, Jamie Erickson, Chase Mason, Jon Mason, Nova Mason, Eileen Miller, Heather Charnoski and Whitney Charnoski. Interment will be in the North Star Cemetery at Saint Cloud, MN at 2:00 p.m. following his Monday service.
