Red Lake Nation announces unofficial results of runoff election

RED LAKE, Minn. – The Red Lake Nation has announced the unofficial results of its July 20 runoff election.

In the May 18 general election, no candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the races for chairman and district representatives. For those five races, the two candidates with the most votes continued to the July 20 runoff election.

In the race for tribal chairman, Darrell Seki Sr., the incumbent candidate, won with 51.4% of the vote against Floyd "Buck" Jourdain in the 1,928-1,826 vote.

After the runoff election, all four districts will have new representatives. In the races for Little Rock and Red Lake district representatives, incumbent candidates were defeated. There were no incumbent candidates for the Redby and Ponemah.

Harlow Spears will be the new Little Rock representative, beating incumbent Adrian Beaulieu with 53.3% of the vote.

Robert Lee May won over incumbent Donald Good Sr. in the race for Red Lake representative. May had 59.8% of the vote, while Good had 40.2%.

In the race for Penemah representative, Eugene Standingcloud won with 51.3% of the vote over Randall Kingbird "Jiggs," who had 48.7% of the total vote.

Harold Graves, with 52.0% of the vote, will be the new Redby representative. Challenger Herman Donnell had 48.0% of the vote.

All election results are preliminary, unofficial results.
