Cankdeska Cikana Alumni Reunion to Celebrate Book Release

FORT TOTTEN, ND. – Cankdeska Cikana Community College (CCCC) will host its annual Alumni Reunion and book release celebration on Thursday, July 21, beginning at 4 PM at the CCCC Student Union.

The event is open to the public, and all attendees will receive a free copy of the CCCC publication, Mniwakan: Place Names and History of the Spirit Lake Dakota. Co-authors Mark Dietrich and Louis Garcia will be available for book signings and to share about the process of combining oral and contemporary history to tell a complete and honest perspective of the Dakota experience.

CCCC President Dr. Cynthia Lindquist looks forward to connecting with alumni and hopes to attract a broad range of people interested in Indigenous cultures.

"We are so excited to celebrate the book's release in conjunction with our annual alumni reunion," said Lindquist. "It will be a memorable occasion and an opportunity to enjoy Indigenous food, comedy, and networking. It's a great way to incorporate our theme, Think Dakota, Live Dakota, and prelude the Spirit Lake Tribe’s annual Fort Totten Days Pow Wow starting the following night."
