In need of singers for Concert Showcase working with Broadway/ Hollywood film composers

The Mask & Rose Theater located in Puposky, is seeking singer/actors for a concert reading of the songs in a new musical, “Water from Snow,” by Janet Preus, Robert Elhai and Fred Steele. As the play is set in a small town in northern Minnesota, we’re looking for performers from the area who are comfortable with popular music – blues, country, R&B, ballads, and musical theater styles. These are adult roles, except for one teenage girl. There is a choice for auditioning . Auditions can be virtual or by submitted video - one or two unaccompanied songs with backing music sent on your iPhone is fine! The other option if you would prefer is to attend an in person audition with a prepared song any genre with the director on these dates : Monday , June 28th from 6:00-7:30 or Tuesday , June 29th from 6:00-7:30 . Call or email Janet to line up your 15 minute slot. There is a stipend for your participation in this concert showcase. The auditions will be held at the Wild Rose Theater located at 24011 Highway 89 NW Puposky MN 56667 as well as the concert. Actors must have an entirely clear schedule from Monday July 25th - Friday July 29th for practices and performances are on Friday , July 29th at 8:00 pm , July 30th at 8:00 pm and a matinee on Sunday at 2:00 pm.

The musical directors are Robert Elhai who has written / arranged for the “ The Lion King” Musical on Broadway and composed for over 150 Hollywood films , as well as Fred Steele of the contemporary Black Gospel group the Steele Family who also has composed works for Broadway stages as well . The playwright / director / composer is Janet Preus with a deep background in musical theater and who now hails from Lake Kabekona in northern MN .

CHARACTERS - but acting is not the focus for this concert as much as showcasing the music . The goal is to produce a full

staging in the future .

KATHY: 30’s, Mother of Annie. Pretty, likable, adrift

ANNIE: Kathy and Free’s 15-year-old daughter. Smart kid but has a little teenaged attitude.

STEVIE: Kathy’s dearest friend, the daughter of a Mexican migrant worker. Could be 30s or older.

FREE: 30’s, (Native American) Kathy’s high school boyfriend and Annie’s dad. Baritone

TESS: High school friend, now an accountant. Long-time girlfriend of Ted.

MARIBETH: High school friend, a ditzy type. Her marriage to Clark is shaky.

TED: Tess’ boyfriend. Good looking, used to having others look after him.

TRAVIS: a young farmer. Tenor, if possible
