Beulah Emma (Lewis) Holstein, age79, of the Turtle Clan from Grand River Band of Ottawa Michigan and also of Cass Lake, MN, began her spiritual journey on Sunday, June 19, 2022, from Sanford Medical Center in Bemidji, MN with her family by her side. Beulah was born on September 13, 1942, in Hart, MI, the daughter of Jacob Lewis and Florence (Shaygonabe) Burmeister.

Beulah was raised in the Ferry/Shelby area of Michigan and attended Shelby High School. After graduation, Beulah attended the Indian School of Practical Nursing in Albuquerque, NM. After graduation, 1 year of service in Indian Health was required, with her choices of Cass Lake, MN, or Oklahoma, she chose to stay close to home and work at Cass Lake Indian Health Services. In the early years of her career, she traveled for work doing in-home visits in Native American Communities. While working in Cass Lake she made several lifelong friends, to name a few, Eileen Gothman, Ardith Norenberg, Birdie Lyons, Dorothy "Skippy" Larsen, Jan Larsen, Peggy Olding, Loretta Brown, and Dr. Diane Pittman, and would marry her lifetime sweetheart Joseph Frederick Holstein. They raised two daughters, Jolyn and Jean. Beulah and Joseph were able to enjoy 51 years together before his passing in 2016. She worked 35 years at Cass Lake IHS and 2 years for the University Medical Center in Salt Lake City, UT while her husband attended the University of Utah. Beulah truly lived life to enjoy her family. She was an avid gardener, ricer and enjoyed baking. She was known for her homemade chocolate chip cookies for visitors. She loved big family dinners and being with family. Beulah was a devoted Catholic. She attended her daughters and grandchildren's sporting events and was their #1 fan. Beulah gave the best childhood to her daughters and was an even better grandmother. She enjoyed going to rummage sales and looked forward to purchasing whatever was needed for her family.

Family that Beulah joins again are her parents, Florence and Jacob; husband, Joseph F. Holstein, Jr .; granddaughter, Emma Lee LaRoque; great-grandsons, Shane and Frederick "Freddy"; sister-in-law, Roberta J. (Holstein) Wind; and siblings, Elsie, Mary, and Harvey "Pete".

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Beulah are her daughters, Jolyn (Jeffrey) Donnell of Cass Lake, Jean (Michael) LaRoque of Waubun, MN; brother, George Lewis of White Hall, MI; sister, Mabel Olds of Meridian, ID; grandchildren, Cara (Kellen) Donnell, Alissa (Ken) Donnell, Jeffrey (Lexi) Donnell, Jr., Mareena (Aaron) Spalding, and Mikaela (Geoff) LaRoque; 8 Great-grandchildren and number 9 on the way.

Funeral service for Beulah will be Thursday, June 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation two hours prior to the start of the service, all to be held at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cass Lake, MN. Father Kuriakose "KK" Nediakala will officiate. Those helping to lay Beulah to rest will be Jeffrey Donnell, Jr., Michael LaRoque, Jeffrey Donnell, Sr., Mike Lewis, John Wind, and Jody Jansen. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters, Cara Donnell, Alissa Donnell, Mareena Spalding, and Mikaela LaRoque. Following the burial in Pine Grove Cemetery in Cass Lake there will be a luncheon served at the White Earth Community Center in Cass Lake.
