PAYROLL TECHNICIAN

ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT- RED LAKE BAND OF CHIPPEWA INDIANS

OPEN: June 17, 2022 CLOSING: July 1, 2022 @ 12:00 p.m.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To compile payroll data and process records and checks on a weekly basis for all tribal programs as well as general administrative accounting duties. Reports to Director of Finance, Full time position with benefits, salary; DOQ.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

• Compiles payroll data such as hours worked, taxes, insurance to be withheld from timesheets and other records

• Prepares and enters data into computer files, or computes wages and deductions and post to payroll records

• Reviews wages computed and corrects error to ensure accuracy of payroll

• Records changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records

• Prepares periodic reports of earnings, taxes and deductions

• Prepares and issues paychecks

• Records or directs recording of new or changed pay rates in payroll register or computer files

• Interpret tribal policies and government regulations affecting payroll procedures

• Adjust errors and complaints

• Prepare income verifications as requested by employees

• Responsible for timely deposits for general fund, may also include contracts and grants

• Completes annual and sick leave time for employee(s) when requested

• Data entry of accounts payable information and invoices

• Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma plus two (2) years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Must possess strong computer abilities and excellent mathematical skills

• Knowledgeable in general accounting with knowledge of payroll

• Must possess excellent customer service skills and be trustworthy

• Knowledgeable in the principles, practices and procedures of accounting

• Employment is contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug test and background check
