PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Court Clerk is responsible for maintaining a record of all proceedings of the Red Lake Nation Court. The primary function of this position will be to handle the Civil Division of the Court. The Court Clerk will render assistance with the overall function of Court when directed by Court Administration or the Chief Judge. Reports to Court Administrator, full-time position with benefits, salary; DOQ.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for the preparation of Civil Petitions for process and may assist with criminal complaints and delinquency filings when directed

• Responsible for scheduling the Civil Court calendar for Judges and may assist in the schedule of the criminal and delinquency process when directed

• Responsible for maintaining daily Civil Court docket and establishes and maintains a permanent file

• Attends hearings regarding civil proceedings and may assist in the criminal or delinquency. Takes minutes on these Court proceedings for proper record

• Arranges the courtroom for civil proceedings, hearings and trials

• Responsible for speaking in public in announcing Court and swearing in witnesses and/or Jurors

• Greets public in a courteous and professional manner and directs calls to appropriate personnel

• Acts as receptionist when required

• Sets up appointments and informal hearings for Judges when directed

• Responsible for maintaining a monthly juvenile report on all cases filed and completed

• Must be able to transcribe proceedings associated with juvenile, civil and criminal hearings

• Assists in collection of fines, bonds, restitution and/or civil fees

• Assists in preparation of the Appeals when directed

• Attend meetings and/or Mental Health Board Meetings and take minutes when directed

• Responsible for monthly submission of Court statistics

• Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma/G.E.D Certificate

• Experience in Data Management Systems preferred

• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks

• Excellent communication skills; verbal and written

• Adhere to and have knowledge of the Data Privacy Act

• Must be of high moral character to uphold the integrity of the Court

• Computer knowledgeable using various software and other office machines used in the Courtroom, including transcribing machines

• Knowledgeable in the Tribal Code and ordinances

• Employment contingent upon successfully passing Pre-Employment Drug/Alcohol Test and Background Check
