(Red Lake, June 2, 2022) - Red Lake Nation College (RLNC) hosted an Open House at its new

downtown Minneapolis site, located at 900 3rd Street South, on Thurs., June 2, 2022. Special guests included RLNC's Board of Regents, Red Lake Tribal Council Members, Minneapolis Mayor, Jacob Frey, MN Commissioner of Higher Education, Dennis Olson, as well as staff members from both Senator Tina Smith and Senator Amy Klobuchar's offices.

The event provided a sneak peek at the Tribal College's plans for renovations that will transform three old buildings into a modern, open, and innovative campus. The $10 million project, led by Full Circle Indigenous Planning +, a Native American-owned and operated planning and design firm, was approved by the Minneapolis Planning Commission in December 2021.

According to Chief Dan King, RLNC President and Hereditary Chief of the Red Lake Nation, the Minneapolis site will expand the current College's mission to provide excellent higher education with a

Tribal perspective to Native Americans and others in the Twin Cities. Of the 15,000+ Red Lake Tribal

members, about half live on the Red Lake Reservation, while a sizable number reside in the Twin Cities metro area, which has one of the largest urban populations of Native people in the U.S.

RLNC team members, which included faculty, staff, and students, gave tours, demonstrated classroom technology, and impressed guests with their personal stories of their involvement with the College.

"This particular college is going to make a gigantic difference for Red Lakers and for our Native community, and we are so proud to partner with you," said Minneapolis Mayor, Jacob Frey.

RLNC is already utilizing some of the office space on site and will continue to do so during the renovations, which are expected to continue for the next year. The college hopes to open its new doors to students and faculty in Fall 2023.
