Onishtah Sione Smith

June 30, 2011 ~ June 4, 2022 (age 10)

Onishtah Sione Smith, age 10, "A-One", which means "Woman that walks with fog", of the Makwa clan, began her spiritual journey on Saturday, June 4th, 2022, in Rochester, MN. She was born on June 30, 2011, the daughter of Jeffrey Brown and BeeJay Smith and recently adopted by her grandmother, Maxine Manypenny.

Onishtah was a nice, funny young lady who liked to laugh and joke around. She was always playing tricks on her brother and sisters, and she was the only one who would race the cat up and down the hallway. Onishtah was fun to be around because she was always happy. She loved to go shopping for shoes, making Tik Tok videos, saving her money in her piggy bank, bike riding, skateboarding, and playing on the trampoline. She wanted to be a gymnast teacher when she grew up and said that if she were to come back in this life, she wanted to come back as a white horse.

The family that Onishtah joins again are uncles: Tomah Lausche, Todd Smith and Patrick Smith; great uncles: Vernon Mitchell and Joseph Mitchell; grandmother: Carol Thomas Brown; grandfathers: Wilfred Smith and Jess Headbird; cousins: Robin Butcher and Louise McKennet; great grandma: Helen Cummings; and her spirit name giver: Larry P. Aitken.

Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are her mother: BeeJay Smith and father: Jeffrey Brown; grandmother: Maxine Manypenny; brother: Damon Brown; sisters: Tokina Smith and Miikowahdiiz Smith, half-sisters: Dolly and Dianne Brown; uncles: Mark Smith, Terry Mitchell, Gene Northbird and Dennis Brown; aunts: Taleeya Lausche, Penny Mitchell, and Bernice Mitchell; cousins: Nayahtae Lausche and Taisha Lausche, Kyle Mitchell, David Mitchell, Summer Mitchell, Christine Cummings, Wa-di Mitchell, Noodin Brown and Anthony Butcher and family; special cousins: Derrick Baptiste and Santos Reyes; special friends: Destinee Barrett and Amiah Robinson.

A wake service for Onishtah will begin at 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 10, 2022, and will continue to the 1:00 p.m. service, Sunday, June 12, all held at the Veteran's Memorial Building in Cass Lake. Active Pallbearers will be Nayahtee Lausche, Kenny Conger, Kyle Mitchell, Anthony Butcher, Derrick Baptiste, Gene Northbird, Jerry Mitchell and Terry Mitchell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Destinee Barrett, Amiah Robinson, and Mrs. Dremmal. Interment will be held in the Boy River Cemetery in Boy Lake following the services at the Vet's Building.
