Representative Grossell Memorial Day Letter to the Editor

This Memorial Day weekend, so many will use the day for cookouts and to kick off summer. But Memorial Day actually exists for more solemn reasons: to remember the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we can all live freely. Their sacrifice deserves our respect and honor.

These men and women gave all and without their sacrifice, we would not enjoy the freedoms and liberties we do as Americans. My family has served in the armed forces since WWI. As a veteran myself, I hold this day close to my heart to honor and remember all those who have paid the ultimate price. As the father of soldiers, I know the honor and fear of sending a child off to war and the prayers I lift up for their safe return.

This weekend, I encourage you and your families to take time and remember those who we have lost. Several events will be happening this weekend to honor the service of those who could not come home. To all our servicemen and women and veterans, thank you and God Bless.
