Saint Paul College Unveils New Mission, Vision, Values

Saint Paul, Minn. - May 23, 2022 - Saint Paul College has updated its mission, vision, and value statements to boldly reflect the College’s commitment to racial equity, community vibrancy, and economic vitality and to create a clear and intentional guide for its future. The Minnesota State Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the revisions on Tuesday, May 17.

“We are proud to publicly unveil Saint Paul College’s bold new mission, vision, and value statements,” said Saint Paul College president Deidra Peaslee, EdD. “Our College community collectively created statements that are sustainable, inclusive, accessible, and transformative. These reaffirm our commitment to becoming an anti-racist, trauma-informed institution.”

At the Board of Trustee’s meeting on Tuesday, May 17, multiple trustee members complimented Saint Paul College’s new direction. In particular, Academic and Student Affairs Committee Chair, Trustee Cheryl Tefer said, “If this enthusiastic and articulate presentation represents in any way what is going on at Saint Paul College, the College is in extraordinarily good hands.”

Trustee Tefer went on to recognize the accessible language and bold direction of the new statements, saying, “Very rarely do people come up with powerful words and use fewer words and language when they're trying to revise statements and you did it."

The Saint Paul College mission, vision, and values statements were last updated ten years ago. The revised mission, vision, and values seek to publicly express Saint Paul College’s purpose as a community and technical college.

They amplify the why and how of what we do in a manner that 1) distinguishes our aims and aspirations; 2) is meaningful and resonates with internal and external stakeholders; 3) guides prioritizing allocation of resources; and 4) conveys Saint Paul College’s commitment to equity and inclusion, hallmarks of anti-racism, trauma-informed practices.
