OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – The Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums (ATALM) has selected six Native Communities to develop cultural plans and establish community-based Native Arts and Culture Councils (NACC). The selected Cohort Communities are: Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas, Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas Tribal Historic Preservation, Livingston, Texas; Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Choctaw Cultural Center, Calera, Oklahoma; Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin, Ho-Chunk Nation Museum and Cultural Center, Tommah, Wisconsin; Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska, Báxoje Wosgaci: Ioway Tribal Museum and Culture Center, White Cloud, Kansas; Pamunkey Indian Tribe, Pamunkey Indian Museum & Cultural Center, King William, Virginia; and Pueblo of Acoma, Sky City Cultural Center & Haak'u Museum, Acoma, New Mexico

With funding from the Ford Foundation, ATALM and a National Advisory Committee will provide training, resources, mentorships from professional planning consultants, and funding to support the community building process. Resources and recorded training sessions will be added to an online toolkit and made freely available to other Native communities wishing to establish institutional support for arts and culture.

“ATALM is grateful to the six Native communities for their support in exploring culturally appropriate paths to preserving and advancing the diverse cultural and artistic traditions that define Native Nations,” said ATALM President Susan Feller. “We look forward to the leadership they will provide as we work to strengthen the arts and culture environment for all Native peoples."
