Red Lake Nation awarded $268,000 for traffic safety project

May 9—RED LAKE — Red Lake Nation was recently awarded $268,000 from the Federal Highway Administration's Tribal Transportation Program for their project, "Lighting for 40 High-Risk Intersections."

"The project will bring much-needed lights to several dangerous intersections across the Red Lake Nation and will provide improved nighttime safety for drivers," a release said.

The Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act, or FAST Act, annually sets aside 2% of the Tribal Transportation Program's funding to address transportation safety issues in Native American communities.
