Miss Indian World pageant 2022 winner

Tashina Red Hawk is a Sicangu Lakota citizen and the new titleholder for the Miss Indian World pageant. The pageant began in 1984 as an off-shoot of the Gathering of Nations powwow. Red Hawk was crowned out of 23 contestants. She joins the newscast to give us the details of her big moment.

We’re continuing our coverage of the U.N. Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. The world’s largest gathering of Indigenous leaders is happening in New York City. ICT’s Carina Dominguez is reporting from the forum.

Jerad Koepp is the first Native American teacher of the year from Washington State. Last week, he visited the White House, where First Lady Jill Biden recognized him in her speech. He is a Native student program specialist at the North Thurston Public Schools, located on Nisqually tribal lands.
