Secretary Haaland to Announce Strategy for Conservation and Restoration of Wildlife Corridors and Habitat Connectivity

WASHINGTON – On Thursday, April 7, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland will host a virtual event highlighting the Interior Department’s efforts to advance collaborative work on wildlife corridors, a core component of the America the Beautiful initiative. The Secretary will outline a path forward to identify and prioritize conservation and restoration of wildlife corridors, as well as other lands and waters that advance habitat connectivity.

During the event, the Secretary and other stakeholders will discuss a strategy to advance the Department’s work on wildlife corridors and restoration of wildlife migration routes and habitat in a way that supports enduring conservation outcomes, honors Tribal sovereignty and private landowner rights, and facilitates sustained collaboration.

In addition to Secretary Haaland, the event will feature four panelists who will discuss their leadership on conserving and restoring wildlife corridors:

• Holly Bamford, Chief Conservation Officer of National Fish and Wildlife Foundation

• Bob Budd, Executive Director of Wyoming Wildlife and Nature Resource Trust

• Julie Thorstenson, Executive Director of the Native American Fish and Wildlife Society

• Tony Wasley, President of the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies and Director of Nevada Department of Wildlife

The live event will begin at 1:00 PM ET on Thursday, April 7. Members of the public and the media can view the event at the Interior Department’s website.
