Ground Breaking Ceremony held at new O-Bah-Shiing Pow Wow Grounds in Ponemah

PONEMAH, MN - At about 10:30 AM on Monday, April 4, 2022, a Ground Breaking Ceremony was held at the site of the new O-Bah-Shiing Pow Wow Grounds in Ponemah.

Speaking at the event was Red Lake Tribal Chairman Darrell Seki, Sr., Tribal Secretary Sam Strong, Tribal Treasurer Annette Johnson, Ponemah Representative Gary Nelson and Hereditary Chief James Loud.

Chairman Seki thanked President Biden and Congress for the funds Tribes received this year to help build the structure, which would be a larger arena than the previous one, and that the project was expected to be completed by September of this year.

The 49th Annual Ponemah Labor Day Pow Wow, one of the largest in the state every year, would probably be it's first inside the new arena. Dancers came from all over the United States and Canada to take part in the 4-day celebration.
