Diana Rosalie Buckanaga

Diana Rosalie Buckanaga, age 82 of Minneapolis, Minnesota started her journey to the Spirit World on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was born on July 18, 1939 the daughter of Andrew and Isabelle Buckanaga. Diana was a member of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe from the Leech Lake Indian Reservation.

She worked for the city of Minneapolis as a Housing Advocate. Diana was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who loved spending time with her family. She opened our home to any youth that needed somewhere safe, where they could sleep, eat, shower, to just get away from harm. It didn't matter the situation, she would take them in. She wouldn't turn anyone away! She has taken care of about 115 kids/teenagers. Diana loved playing softball – she was the pitcher. Mama kept herself busy with cooking, going to her "moms morning out", Ladies Church group, going to church and cooking for church functions. She loved hanging out with her grandbabies and great grandbabies, going for a ride in the truck. Most of all, she loved playing Bingo and the slots, watching movies, no matter how many times she had seen them. She was the best mother and we love and miss her!

Diana is survived by her daughters: Debra Rojas, D.A. Rojas, Desiree Rojas and Diana Tolentino; sons: Juan (Lauretta) Rojas, James Rojas II, Charles (Brittany) Rojas I and "Rhino"; brothers: Andrew Buckanaga, Dennis Buckanaga; sisters: Joanne Thunder, Barbara Losh and Linda Sailor; 15 grandbabies; 24 great grandbabies; many foster kids and many other loving family and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents: Andrew and Isabelle Buckanaga; maternal and paternal grandparents; sons: Antonio Tolentino, Elpedio Tolentino, and Ricardo Rojas; many other family, foster and friends.

An all-night visitation will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022 beginning at 7:00 P.M. at the Church of the Blessed Kateri in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

A funeral service for Diana Buckanaga will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of the Blessed Kateri in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Officiating will be Brian Matrious.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Debra Rojas, D.A. Rojas, Desiree Rojas, Diana Tolentino, James Rojas II, Juan Rojas, Brittany Green, Amira & Charles J. Rojas II, Brent Buchan, Joann Thunder.

Casket Bearers will be Charles J. Rojas I, Javontae Griffin, Greg Jackson, Sage Rojas, Anthony Graves, Nathaniel Tolentino

Interment will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
