School Board eliminates Mask Mandates at all Red Lake Schools

Votes to put in motion new Superintendent search immediately

RED LAKE, MN - At the Regular School Board Meeting of Wednesday, March 16, 2022, the Red Lake School Board voted in favor of eliminating all mask mandates issued in 2021, along with allowing individual families the option of continuing to wear masks by choice.

In other actions, the Board accepted a resignation from Elizabeth Barrett, a teacher, at the end of the school year, approved additions to the non-certified substitute list, and approved spring coaches.

Kyle Fairbanks was selected at the head baseball coach, Nolan Desjarlait as the assistant coach, Gerald Kingbird Sr. and Chris Walker as junior high coaches; Randy Holthusen was selected as head softball coach, Matt Hartvikson as assistant coach, Tara Graves and Lynelle *Sue) Roy as junior high coaches; Brad Castle as head boys golf coach, Ron Laituri as head girls coach, and Rob Pemberton Jr. as junior high coach.

The Board also approved an unpaid leave request for Wesley Halverson, a bus driver, until the end of the school year, hired Jaiden Roberts and Chloe Linduer as paraprofessionals for the district, and hired Wayne Johnson Jr. as a bus driver.

The Principal's Associatin Master Agreement was approved, non-union staff wage increases were approved, an employee was terminated for job abandonment, and bills in the amount of $1,753,059.95 were approved for payment.

A Distance Learning model and plan was presented for the 2022-23 school year and was approved, along with direction to administration and the school board chairman to begin the process of beginning the search for a new superintendent for the upcoming school year with the assistance of MSBA.
