Scott Jensen and Matt Birk are Dangerous for Minnesota

MINNESOTA - Today, Alliance for a Better Minnesota released the following statement regarding the announcement that Matt Birk will be joining Scott Jensen’s campaign for Minnesota Governor:

“From spreading COVID-19 misinformation to promoting baseless election conspiracies, Scott Jensen continues to show that he is an irresponsible leader. His choice of far-right conservative Matt Birk as a running mate is no different,” said Marissa Luna, executive director of Alliance for a Better Minnesota. “The Jensen-Birk ticket threatens an extreme Texas-style abortion ban in Minnesota, a dangerous attack on our LGBTQ+ communities, and to undo all the progress we've made in getting the COVID-19 crisis under control. Minnesotans deserve far better than Scott Jensen and Matt Birk.”

Matt Birk is an outspoken opponent of gay marriage and in 2012 publicly supported the constitutional amendment in Minnesota to ban marriage equality. In 2013 he was exposed for his extreme anti-choice politics and even refused to attend a White House event with his NFL teammates because President Obama supported a woman’s right to choose. During the COVID-19 crisis, Matt Birk downplayed the pandemic and spread misinformation about the vaccine on social media.
