DNC on 57th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday

On the 57th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement:

“57 years ago, hundreds of committed voting rights activists attempted to march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. They were met with slurs, batons, and smoke bombs. But they didn’t give up — and two days later, they kept marching. They showed the world the fierce urgency of the need for voting rights legislation and they rallied national support for their cause — support that would ultimately lead to the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

“Today, amidst an onslaught of Republican voter suppression measures, the Democratic Party will continue the legacy of those activists on the bridge. Whether in the courts, or knocking doors, or registering voters, or deploying cutting edge technology, our voter protection team — the largest in DNC history — will not give up; we will keep marching forward.”
