Beadwork artist Thomas Stillday, Jr. named 2022 fellowship recipient

Mar. 5—PONEMAH — For nearly 40 years, Thomas Stillday, Jr. has been sharing his Anishinaabe culture one bead at a time.

As one of eight recipients of the 2022 First People's Fund "Cultural Capital Fellowship," Stillday has received a $10,000 grant to further the cultural work in his community through the arts.

"I've conducted beading circles here in Ponemah where people come over and learn to do beadwork that Anishinaabe people were known for," Stillday said. "This award will help me out with purchasing supplies such as beads, thread and needle materials, leather for moccasins and other materials."
