Viola Kingbird, age 85, of Red Lake, MN, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.

Viola was born on March 20, 1936, in Red Lake, MN to Fannie (Kingbird) and William Clark. Viola married Arnold Kingbird, Sr. and together they raised their family in Red Lake. Viola enjoyed outings to the casino to play the Keno machines. She was an excellent cook and baker who was well known for her homemade fry bread and buns. She loved watching old movies and westerns while she worked on her crossword puzzles with her dog, Paco, on her lap. Above all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She will lovingly be remembered by her eight children: Arnold "Barney" (Nancy) Kingbird, Willy (Cindy) Kingbird, Norman (Shirley) Kingbird, Louella Kingbird, Loretta Escareno, Beverly Kingbird, Anita (Clem) Kingbird, Mike (Denise) Kingbird; 28 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; special daughter, Elizabeth "Rooni" Kingbird; special granddaughters: Shileen Kingbird and Aileena Kingbird; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold Kingbird, Sr .; eleven brothers and sisters; son-in-law, Oscar Escareno; grandchildren: Anthony and Mary; great-granddaughter, Avielle and great-grandchild in infancy.

The wake will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at the Redby Community Center in Redby and continue until the service at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, January 28, 2022 with George Ross officiating. Active casketbearers will be: David Escareno, Travis Kingbird, Nathan Kingbird, Charles May, Clem May, Jr., William Kingbird, Jr., Trevor Kingbird, Trey Kingbird, Andrew Kingbird and Kelly Kingbird. Honorary casketbearers will be: Donna Spears, Elaine Clark, Diane Howard, Joyce Schoenborn, Ruby Wilkens, Flora Jones, Cindy Kingbird, Alberta Swenson, Shileen Kingbird and Aileena Kingbird.
