Roderick Selam "Sauce" McKenzie, age 52, of the Bear Clan and Redby, Minnesota journeyed to the spirit world on Thursday, December 2nd, 2021, from the Red Lake IHS in Red Lake, MN. He was born in Bemidji, MN on February 12, 1969, the son of Roberta (Head) and Clem McKenzie.

Roderick attended school in Red Lake, MN, and Wahpeton, ND, later receiving his GED, and then attended MN Tech-auto and Red Lake Nation Tribal College. "Sauce" was the life of the party. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and everyone enjoyed spending time with him. He liked to cook, clean, play cribbage and drink Budweiser. He enjoyed going to concerts, listening to rock and roll music, telling crazy stories about his lost loved ones and old friends. He was an amazing father to his own children and some nieces and nephews he helped raise. He was a proud father, brother, uncle, and friend. He would help anyone anytime he could, even if he only had a couple of dollars in his pocket, he would give you what money could not buy, HIS TIME. He enjoyed carpentry work, building and fixing things, a true jack of all trades.

Those Roderick joins in the spirit world are his parents, Roberta and Clem McKenzie; grandparents; sister, Marilyn Beaulieu; brother, William "Nick" McKenzie; nieces, Brittany Cobenais, and April King; nephews, Robert Beaulieu and Royal King.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Roderick are his sons, Raymond Donnell of Red Lake, and Roderick "June Bug" McKenzie of OK; daughters, Rose (Corey) McKenzie of Red Lake, Kiah McKenzie of Red Lake, and Marla Hegstrom of Warroad, MN, and special daughter, Cindy Cobenais of Red Lake, MN; brothers, Ronald McKenzie, Gerald Spears, and special brother, Roderick "Mr." Sayers; sisters, Cherilyn Spears, Faye King, and Darilyn Spears; special niece, Liza Spears; special nephew, Jeremy Spears; and 4 grandchildren.

A two-night wake for Roderick will begin Saturday, December 4th, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. at the Redby Community Center in Redby, MN and continue until his Monday, December 6th, 2021, service at 1:00 p.m. with Father John Christianson and Spiritual Advisor Victoria Irons-Graves officiating. Those helping to lay Roderick to rest will be his nephews, Ira Spears, Robbie Beaulieu III, Selam Spears, Jerald Cobenais, Johnny Cobenais, Jeremy Spears, Pete McKenzie, Bill McKenzie, Isaac Spears, Miskwaasin Spears, and Christopher Jourdain, Sr. and Corey Donnell. Honorary pallbearers will be John Cobenais, Sr., Alan Jones, Craig Sayers, Ramon Sayers, Jason Head, George Head, Verdell Beaulieu, Sr., David "Cobe" Cobenais, Sr., Ange Charnoski, Kayln Sargent, John Beaulieu, Karen Cobenais, Ayden Perkins, and Connie Neadeau. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake, MN.
