Burnsville schools will go to distance learning due to COVID-19 surge

Students will take classes at home Wednesday through Dec. 3

Students in the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District will switch to distance learning starting Wednesday and running through Dec. 3 due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in its schools and communities in the south metro.

The move affecting about 7,500 students in kindergarten through grade 12 in the district covering parts of Dakota and Scott counties comes after the neighboring Shakopee School District canceled classes this week due to outbreaks there.

"We're making this decision in consultation with health experts in the Minnesota Department of Health, as well as in Dakota and Scott counties," the district said in a letter posted on its website. "We're ready for this, and I believe that taking this action will make a positive difference for our students, families and our staff."
