Janice Diane (Holstein) Morgan

May 21, 1947 ~ November 19, 2021 (age 74)

Janice Diane (Holstein) Morgan, age 74, "Ogi-maa-ikwe-ish-pi-ming" which means "Boss Lady in the Sky" of the Loon Clan and from Cass Lake, Minnesota was born in Cass Lake, MN on May 21st, 1947, the daughter of Marion (Budreau) and Joseph Holstein and biological father Charles Johnson. She was raised in Cass Lake by numerous relatives because her mother was sick when she was born. The relatives that helped to raise her were her grandma Jane Budreau and aunties and uncles Milton and Loretta Budreau and Marcy and Paul Folstrom. After her mother recovered from her illness Janice became very close to her own mother and her two stepfathers Joseph Holstein and Orlean Folstrom. From a very young age Janice started babysitting for her aunts and uncles, watching her younger cousins, and doing other odd jobs to make her own money. When Janice was 18, she had her first child, Bobby Joe. Janice then decided to relocate to California with her aunt Donna Budreau and family.

In 1968, she came home to Minnesota and met her first husband, Walter and they had two children, Gerri and Paula. She lived back and forth between Cass Lake and Minneapolis for a few years. Janice worked hard to make sure her children were taken care of no matter where she was living. Some of her jobs included a job at the Sears Tower, a nursing home in Minneapolis and as a teacher's aide at the Cass Lake/Bena Elementary School. Her first marriage did not work out and in 1983 Janice met the love of her life, Clyde Morgan. They married in 1990 and have four children together, Kristi, Crystal, Clyde Jr. and Dianna. Janice went to work for the Leech Lake Headstart program in 1990 and worked there until she completed her degree in Child Development. She opened her own business, Jan's Little Ones Daycare in 1997. She cared for numerous children until she closed her childcare center in 2005. Janice continued to care for children, in other centers and homes, until her health forces her to retire in 2011.

After retiring, Janice spent her time with her husband Clyde and her children and grandchildren. During the summers she enjoyed to company of her powwow friends and the drum ceremonies in the spring and fall times. She loved her country music. Most of all, Janice enjoyed life to the fullest up until the time of her fifth and final stroke that took her life on Friday, November 19th, 2021, at her home surrounded by some of her family. Janice will be missed be all that knew her. She never treated anyone different, and her door was always open to anyone. Janice took hand in raising a lot of children over the years and had a heart of gold.

She is welcomed to the spirit world by her son; Clyde Jr., parents; Joe and Marion, biological father; Charles Johnson, sisters; Frances "Frenchy" Holstein, Roberta "Berta" Wind and Carmel "Pickle" Headbird, brothers; Joseph "Joe" and Robert "Bobby" Holstein, granddaughter; Misty Holstein, grandbaby Morgan, great grandson; Tyler Holstein, aunt; Marcy Folstrom, uncle; George "Monkey Man" Holstein in-laws; David and Josephine Morgan, special sisters in-law; Karen Morgan and Pat Moose, other relatives and some friends.
