Robert James Clark

August 5, 1954 ~ November 7, 2021 (age 67)

Robert James Clark, age 67, of the Loon Clan, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at his residence in Redby, Minnesota.

Bob was born in Red Lake, Minnesota, on August 5, 1954, to Clarence Bellanger and Ione Clark. Early on he became interested in the traditional ways and in the late 1980's became devoted to the American Indian Movement (AIM). Following in the path of Dennis Banks, he often traveled to participate in ceremonies and activism in order to empower the native community. He was father to eight children, and it was important to him that they be taught their traditional ways, often taking them on his travels.

Bob loved being in the woods, fishing and hunting and harvesting swamp tea which he shared with family. He loved gardening and was close to animals, taking extra care to see that even the neighborhood puppies were cared for. Bob loved playing bingo and going to the casino. He often had everyone in the casino laughing, including the girls who flocked to his table in response to his charming personality. Bob also loved softball and basketball, his son remembering him coaching their team in middle school. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, taking great pride in them.

Waiting to greet Bob are his parents; brothers Bobby, Everett, William and Clarence; sister Marilyn; and daughter Rachel McKenzie. He will be greatly missed by his sons Waagosh (Nicole) Banks, Waabooz Banks, Seqouyah St. John, and Robert and Leon McKenzie; daughters Ione and Amanda McKenzie; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers Alvin, Daryl, Louie and Richard Clark; sisters Alberta Swinson, Rose Clark, and Margaret Purser; special cousin Elaine Clark, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A traditional wake for Robert will begin Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at 2:00 PN at the Redby Center, Redby, MN, and will continue until his service on Thursday, November 11, at 12:00 Noon.
