James Lawrence TeJohn, Jr., age 64, of the Turtle Clan and Cass Lake, MN journeyed to the Spirit World on Saturday, November 6th, 2021, from Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, MN. He was born January 10, 1957, in White Earth, MN the son of Elizabeth Blakely and James Lawrence TeJohn, Sr.

After receiving his G.E.D. James went to work as a MN DNR Wildland Firefighter serving out of the Cass Lake, MN office from 1992-2007. From 2007-2017 he worked as a wildland firefighter for the Leech Lake DRM out of Cass Lake, MN. James completed his associates degree in 2005 from Northwest Technical College in Bemidji, MN. He enjoyed taking long country drives, going to the casino, playing horseshoes, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He was an excellent mechanic, he enjoyed working on cars, especially helping to maintain his families' cars. He was an avid bough picker. He taught the family tradition of ricing, along with several other life lessons and trade skills to his nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed.

Those welcoming James to the spirit world are his parents, Elizabeth Blakely and James TeJohn, Sr .; grandmother, Rachel Blakely; brothers, Kenneth and Kevin TeJohn; and nephew, Donald Kamrowski.

Those left behind to cherish James' memory are his sons, Jason French of Fargo, ND, James TeJohn III of Cass Lake, and Johnson TeJohn of Bemidji; daughters, Justine Jourdain of Cass Lake, Jasmine Jourdain of Bemidji, and Trista French of Fargo; stepmother, Josephine "Joann" Ellis; sisters, Beverly (Jon) Kamrowski, Linda TeJohn, Barbara Ellis, and Jenny Ellis; 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

A two-night wake will start for James on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. and continue until his traditional service on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. all held at the Veteran's Memorial Building in Cass Lake, MN. His spiritual advisor will be Melvin Goodman. Those helping to lay James to rest will be Derek Blakely, Paul Person, Marvin Blakely, Donnie Pepworth, Darryl Johnson, Dean Jourdain, and Waase Jourdain. Honorary pallbearers will be all of James' nieces and nephews and the Leech Lake DRM Wildland Fire Crew. Interment will be in Chippewa Bible Church Cemetery in Cass Lake, MN following his service.
