Ted was born in Mahnomen, MN on October 27 1960 to James and Joan LaFriniere. Ted has been a barber in Bemidji since 1980. He was a co-owner of The Headquarters Barbershop with his father Jim, who passed away in 2006. Ted spent most of his childhood in Crookston, MN. In 1977 his family moved to Mellen, Wisconsin where his family owned the Finn Inn. After graduating highschool, class of 1979, he attended and graduated barber school in St. Paul, MN, and then moved to Bemidji MN to work with his father, Jim, at The Headquarters Barbershop in Bemidji. Soon after he moved to Bemidji, he became a member of the Bemidji JC's, where he met his wife Janeen. They were married in September of 1985. He loved his job at the barbershop, and spending time talking to his customers every day. He loved spending time with his wife and daughters, and watching Wheel of Fortune every night with them after work. In his spare time Ted also enjoyed pursuing his passion for building cabinets and furniture, designing many pieces for his family and friends. He enjoyed playing golf with family and friends, gathering to play in yearly tournaments. He also enjoyed playing in tournaments with the local pool league. In the past he also played hockey, was in a local softball league, and was a member of the Bemidji Eagles Club. In 2019, he was diagnosed with lymphoma. After completing his first round of chemotherapy, and being declared cancer free, his Lymphoma returned in 2020. He was receiving his last round of chemotherapy in March 2021, when he was diagnosed with COVID-19. While the cancer did not come back, his lungs became more and more damaged by COVID-19. He was unable to continue working as a barber, or continue with his many hobbies, as his condition slowly declined. After fighting for 7 months, he passed away in Bemidji's Sanford Hospital on October 9th, 2021 surrounded by his family at age 60.

He is preceded in death by his parents James and Joan, and brothers Ross and Brad, and nephew Joe.

He is survived by his wife Janeen, and daughters Rachel and Andrea, and brothers Doug (Mary), and Bryan (Denise) and sister Renee.

We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Sanford Health, the Sanford Home and Health Care staff, and everyone at the Joe Lueken Cancer Center for their help and support. We also want to thank everyone who reached out to our family during this time. We appreciate everything you have done for us.
