Derek Bruce Winslow was a loving father, son, brother, uncle and had many friends. He journeyed to the spirit world, unexpectedly, on Tuesday, October 5th, 2021 from Cass Lake, MN at the age of 36.

Derek was born to Michael Newago III and Julie Winslow in Minneapolis, MN on July 5, 1985. He grew up in Minneapolis and later in life made his home in Cass Lake, MN. He attended and graduated from Leech Lake Tribal College and worked at Cass Lake Forest Products and at Stony Point Restaurant as a Chef. Derek had many friendships and was a loving guy with a big heart.

He is preceded in death by his grandpa; Mick Newago, Sr. and grandmother; Betty Foss.

Derek leaves behind his parents; Michael (Sherri) Newago III, mother; Julie Winslow, children; Cody Headbird, Aaliyah, Julie, Nevaeh, Kayanaleigh, Kaliyah, Raleigh and Colton Winslow, stepdaughters; Hayleigh Headbird-Finn and Holleigh Finn, grandson; Jameson Headbird, brothers; Tony and Michael Winslow and Jordan Newago, special uncle David "Crock" Newago, partner; Skippie Finn, several other family members and a lot of friends.

An overnight wake for Derek will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8th and continue until his 11:00 a.m. traditional service on Saturday, October 9th all to be held at the Veteran's Memorial Building in Cass Lake, MN. Allen Hardy will be his Spiritual Advisor. Pallbearers for Derek will be Ricky Newago, Mikey Newago, Bobby Newago, Jordan Newago, Michael Winslow and Tony Winslow. His honorary pallbearers are all his family and friends. Interment will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery at Cass Lake, MN following his Saturday service. The family requests that everyone wear a mask during the services.
