Walz's plan to combat delta variant faces pushback from GOP
The governor made his case at an elementary school that's using rapid COVID test kits

Gov. Tim Walz outlined his defense plan Wednesday against the latest wave of COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths. But many of the steps he's calling for are not under his control.
Some are in the federal government's hands, such as ramping up production of rapid test kits, which Walz and school officials said are critical during a news conference Wednesday at Carver Elementary School in Maplewood. The governor also said he's hopeful the Pfizer vaccine will get emergency use authorization for children ages 5 to 11 in a matter of weeks.
Other moves Walz wants to deploy are up to the divided state Legislature, where Republicans are pushing back.
