Sonya Wade, "Miskoasinikwe" age 50, of Naytahwaush, MN, died on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Sonya Kay Wade was born February 7, 1971, in Mahnomen, MN, the daughter of Ronald Ross and Mary "Molly" Bunker. She grew up on the White Earth Reservation where she attended school. Following high school, Sonya moved to Fargo, ND, and entered the workforce. She was united in marriage to Phillip Wade Sr. and together they raised six children. They lived in Minneapolis, MN, for a time before moving to Naytahwaush. Sonya later moved to Bena, MN, where she worked for the Elderly Nutrition Program. In addition, she also worked as a bartender and cleaned cabins. Most recently, Sonya was working as a PCA and had relocated back to Naytahwaush to be closer to family.

Sonya was always the life of the party. She had a great social life that was accompanied by a wonderful sense of humor. Sonya was funny and caring and could always cheer you up. Her door was forever open to anyone in need, and you never left hungry. Sonya loved to cook large meals for her family and friends. She especially liked hanging out with her friends and going to the casino. In addition, she also enjoyed quilting, beading, canning and cooking and above all, loved her grandkids very much. Although gone from this world to soon, she will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Sonya is survived by two sons, Cody (Brittney) Wade of Breckenridge, MN, and Arnold Wade of Naytahwaush; three daughters: Heather Wade of Naytahwaush, Haylee Wade and Sadie Wade both of Breckenridge; two grandchildren, Little Cody and Kaleah; two brothers, Michael Bunker of Cass Lake, MN, and Mick Turpin of Mahnomen; grandma, Phyllis Bunker of Waubun, MN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Phillip Wade Jr .; one sister, Nindonis Bunker; one brother, Rick Turpin; and grandpa, Glen Bunker.

Visitation will begin Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 5:00 pm at the Naytahwaush Sports Complex in Naytahwaush, MN, and continue until the time of the service at 11:00 am on Friday, October 1, 2021. Burial will be at Samuel Memorial Episcopal Cemetery in Naytahwaush.

Following all Covid-19 safety protocols, and CDC guidelines, social distancing will be practiced. Masks are required at the Naytahwaush Sports Complex.
