Paul Gazelka is Not the Leader Minnesotans Need

Alliance for a Better Minnesota responds to Gazelka’s gubernatorial announcement

MINNESOTA - Today, Alliance for a Better Minnesota released the following statement regarding Paul Gazelka’s announcement to run for governor of Minnesota:

“From downplaying the COVID-19 pandemic to blocking emergency insulin for Minnesotans with diabetes, Paul Gazelka has proven time and again that he is not the leader that Minnesotans need,” said Marissa Luna, executive director of Alliance for a Better Minnesota. “As a state senator, Paul Gazelka voted to give tax breaks to the wealthiest Minesotans and big tobacco companies, underfund our schools, and shortchange working Minnesotans. Minnesota families deserve better.”

During the COVID-19 crisis, Paul Gazelka consistently downplayed the pandemic, refused to rely on facts and science, and made reckless decisions like holding a large, in-person post-election party that resulted in a member of his caucus dying from COVID.

As a state senator, Gazelka voted to shortchange working Minnesotans, underfund Minnesota schools and reduce access to pre-K for Minnesota’s youngest learners, give tax breaks to the wealthiest Minnesotans and big tobacco companies, protect opioid manufacturers from taking responsibility for the opioid epidemic, against emergency insulin for Minnesotans with diabetes, against banning the harmful practice of conversion therapy, and blocked gun violence prevention legislation.
