ASSISTANT TEACHER

MINO BIMAADIZIWIN CHILD CARE CENTER MINNEAPOLIS

Open: August 31, 2021 – Until filled

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Assistant Teacher is primarily responsible for fostering a nurturing and supportive relationship with the children, while maintaining a safe environment, and managing the daily transitions. Work with children from infancy to school age. Full-time position with benefits, salary DOQ. Reports to the Lead Teacher

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

• Must interact with the children in a positive manner

• Attend all Child Care in-service sessions and staff meetings and educational classes as set forth

• Maintain and foster a healthy emotional climate in the classroom

• Follow current teaching model and assist with lesson plans

• Record student's daily activities in the teacher-parent communication tool

• Seek ongoing career development

• Follow Child Care policies and procedures

• Maintain organizational properties of the classroom environment

• Promote and foster the Child Care philosophy among staff, parents and community

• Clear away and set-up the classroom activities daily

• Occasionally provide non-traditional child care hours

• Support with curriculum development and delivery

• Support with managing transitions daily

• Assist with maintaining monthly program records and reports as designated

• Comply with all mandated reporting regulations

• Maintain confidentiality at all times

• Maintains professional communication with staff and parents

• Flexible to float across classrooms when support is needed

• Other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher and/or Director

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must have High School Diploma or GED

• Preferred, but not required, Child Development Associate Credential (CDA)

• 200 hours of classroom experience

• Must possess a Minnesota Driver's License

• Must be able to lift 70 pounds

• Must complete both CPR and First Aide Training upon hiring

• Negative TB test prior to employment

• Employment contingent upon successfully passing Pre-Employment Drug/Alcohol Test and Background Check

• Must have Covid Vaccine

• Comply with Covid 19 requirement to ensure health and safety for staff, children, and parents.
