Donald Harvey Graves, Jr., age 52, of Red Lake, Minnesota, passed away on September 3, 2021. He was born on May 5, 1969, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Diane G. (Morrison) Graves and Donald H. Graves, Sr.

Donald was raised in Minneapolis and Chicago. He resided for the remainder of his life in Red Lake where he had his own home. He attended Red Lake schools and Vo-Tech for carpentry. Donald worked for Con’s Masonry as a carpenter; Red Lake Builders on their road crew; May’s Electric as assistant for Dudie May; and for Red Lake Casino in maintenance.

Donald was a good friend to everyone. He welcomed people into his home when they had nowhere else to go. He was willing to help others. His passion was cooking, especially on the grill, even in the winter months. He enjoyed playing a game of golf and bowling; staying home watching movies and having company over, sitting around smoking and having a beer. He liked the outdoors, going to Moondance and We-fest, walking in State Parks, camping, hunting, and fishing with his bow. He loved raising hell and terrorizing everyone. His humor was like no other! He will be loved and missed by many.

Donald is survived by his parents Diane and Donald Graves Sr.; his children Sherrell G. Graves of Rochester, Blain D. Graves of Red Lake, and Chelsey L. Graves of Minneapolis; brother Luke P. Graves; sisters Karen L. (Gordon Roy) Graves and Karen Donnell; special friend Renee Fairbanks; a special lifetime brother Sheldon G. Bailey; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his grandson Evan N. Iceman; nephew Tyler Graves; close uncles Donald (Dude) May, Joe Morrison and Greg Morrison; grandparents Mamie and Chester Morrison, Claudia Burns, and Paul Graves; and other aunts, uncles and cousins.

A wake will begin on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at 1:00pm at the Red Lake Community Center and will continue until his service on Thursday, September 9, at 1:00pm. Fr. Jerry Rogers and Fr. John Christianson will officiate. Casketbearers will be Willy Jo Morrison, Gary James Lussier, Derek Lee Smith, John Gordon Lussier, Rowdy James May, Eddie Elmer Lone, Cody Joseph Morrison, Greg James Barrett, and above all his special and best friend, Sheldon G. Bailey. Honorary casketbearers will be Daryl Bohn, Todd Barrett, Derek Siddens, Becky (Beerbomb) Cook, Charlie Parkhurst, Gordon G. Roy, Sheldon Defoe Sr., Mike Good, Leif Saunders, Harold “Littleson” Brun, Dave “Cobe” Cobenais, and Cora Rosebear. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Red Lake, MN.
