PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Grant Writer researches and responds to funding opportunities to support the vision and mission, as well as projects and programs, for the Tribe; they are responsible for managing the application, evaluation, and administration of grants from both public and private grant sources, as well as local and national. Reports to Director, full-time positions w/benefits, Salary; DOQ.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Identifies and researches funding opportunities at all levels.

• Develops, writes, and prepares concept papers, proposals, and reports.

• Researches funding source proposal requirements and submittal deadlines; maintaining a reporting deadline calendar and coordinating the reporting with appropriate staff.

• Ensures timely submission of proposals to secure funding.

• Communicates with the Finance Department and various Program Managers, and Project Leads, to gather necessary and accurate fiscal information for proposals and funding opportunities.

• Establishes and implements a system of prospect research for support from government funding agencies and the Federal Government; to include ARPA funding.

• Interviews Program Managers to determine goals, objectives, scope, feasibility, and funding needs for programs and projects.

• Connects with external agencies on ARPA funding and programs, and engages stakeholder agencies on ARPA funding, programs, and impact.

• Gathers and maintains current files on institutional programs and projects.

• Writes, edits, and proofreads proposals and reports to funding agencies, ensuring that all reporting requirements are being met.

• Tracks status of proposals and follows-up to provide additional information as required by funding sources.

• Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• A minimum of two (2) years of grant-related or relevant experience

• A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Public Policy, or other closely-related field of study

• Prior experience working with Native American populations or other government entities, such as a non-profit

• Extensive knowledge of grant funding policies and procedures at the local, State, and Federal level, as well as all regulations surrounding these policies

• Strong experience with grants submission processes and protocols

• Exceptional writing and editorial skills, with the ability to communicate the goals and aims of the Tribe to outside funding sources in a manner that invites successful funding

• Ability to maintain a high level of activity without daily supervision; to develop project plans and consistently meet deadlines

• Aptitude to develop creative approaches to ensure that projects and programs can be developed, meeting the requirements of funding sources

• Ability to work and write professionally in a deadline-driven environment

• Significant experience in Tribal Government, program management, and compliance with Federal grant requirements

• Knowledge and application of principles and best practices of budget, grants, research, and performance measurements

• Strong application of professional research and budget methodology; strong financial skills

• Skills with connecting with external agencies on ARPA funding and programming, and ability to engage with stakeholders and agencies on ARPA funding, programming, and impact

• Understanding of Federal guidelines regarding ARPA and other Federal funds

• Ability to organize and synthesize complex data

• Experience with working with multiple grants, including Federal grants and reporting requirements

• Skilled in complex financial tracking across multiple fund sources and projects, and with outside agencies

• Strong critical thinking and analytical skills

• Ability to communicate complex information in a way that is understandable by others

• Demonstrated accuracy, thoroughness, and strong attention to detail

• Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and respond promptly

• Knowledge of Tribal sovereignty and the impact of applicable regulatory standards; a strong commitment to social justice and experience partnering with under-served communities

• Knowledge of grant application, administration, and compliance

• Strong interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to earn trust and respect of colleagues and partners at all levels, and from diverse backgrounds and cultures

• Flexibility with shifting priorities and competing demands

• Excellent verbal and written communication, and strong presentation skills

• Ability to function as an effective member of a work group, gaining the respect and cooperation of others

• Excellent planning and organization skills

• History of successful and positive working relationships with all prior employers

• Sensitivity towards the Native American culture

• A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment, as evidenced by positive employment references from period and current employers and other references

• Basic computer and software skills are required, including, but not limited to Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, Adobe PDF, and Outlook

• Employment is contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug test and comprehensive background check.
