35 percent of Minnesota now in 'extreme drought', says latest report

August 9, 2021

Minnesota’s drought conditions continued to worsen this week, but the weekend forecast could bring some relief to the dry region.

Nearly the entire state is in the grip of drought, according to Thursday’s weekly report from the US Drought Monitor. But the share of Minnesota, considered to be in extreme drought, rose from 22 percent last week to 35 percent this week.

These areas have received light rain in the last seven days. Most of them recorded 4.5 to 6 inches below normal during the last 60 days and 8.5 inches below normal since early May.
