Margaret Catherine Gibbs

September 15, 1965 ~ July 14, 2021 (age 55)

Margaret Catherine Gibbs, age 55, of Bemidji, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at the Red Lake IHS Hospital. Margaret was born September 15, 1965, in Red Lake to Oliver and Darlene (Jones) Gibbs. She grew up with her five brothers and sisters in Redby and attended Red Lake High School. Margaret had a wandering nature and loved to travel. She spent her early years traveling to places like Canada to visit her sister and North Dakota and beyond. Later in her 20's, she started a family and became the mother of seven children. She worked for a time at Seven Clans Casino and for the Red Lake New Beginnings program. Eventually she made her way to Bemidji and made her home there.

Margaret was the strong-willed sister who did things her way. Her siblings share laughter as they remember some of her adventures. They sometimes called her "number 7" after the mule in the show "Grizzly Adams." She was a collector of many things but was always willing to share them with her family. Margaret was a superb cook, having learned how to turn a little into a great meal and how to cook "the old way" from her great aunt. Margaret had a loving heart, and especially loved her grandchildren and her great-nephews and nieces; she had a special bond with little kids. She also spent a lot of time with her aunts and cousins in Pennington. Margaret had a gift of making you laugh and to feel good. She will be missed by those who loved her.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Oliver and Darlene Gibbs; brothers George Gibbs and Richard Gibbs; sister Annie Sumner; sons Justice White and Dale White Jr.; nephew James Lee; and special friend Conrad Kingbird. Those she left behind to mourn her passing are sons Joseph Gibbs and Leroy White III; daughters Flower White, Summer White, and Margaret White; five grandchildren; sisters Lisa Lyons and Tina Roybal; and her aunt Delores Fineday.

A wake for Margaret will begin on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at 1:00 PM at the Redby Center in Redby, Minnesota and will continue until her service on Monday, July 19, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
