Doris Dale Seki "Waakowazh" means Whippoorwill, age 66 from Obahshiing, MN, and of the Migizi Clan journeyed to the spirit world on July 8th, 2021, at St. Marys hospital in Duluth, MN. She was born on July 12th, 1954, in Red Lake, MN to Susan Downfeather Johnson and Harry Johnson Jr.

Doris grew up and attended school in the Red Lake area, graduating from Red Lake High School in 1972. In her early working years, Doris worked at the Ponemah Elementary School as a teacher's aide, then in the summer month she worked at the Red Lake Fisheries, she was also part owner, operator of the North Lake Snack Shop. In 2001, Doris went on to school at Bemidji State University majoring in Elementary Education. When school was off, Doris continued her employment at the Ponemah Elementary school as a teacher's aide. As the years went on Doris graduated from BSU with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education on May 13th, 2005. After Doris graduated from BSU she went on and was hired as a wellness counselor with Red Lake Comprehensive Health, she loved and cared for all the students.

While Doris enjoyed a lot of hobbies some of her favorites were drawing, gardening, collecting rocks and arrowheads, listening to powwow, the Beatles, John Fogerty, and other classic hits. She also enjoyed watching her old tv shows, and sports. She liked to gamble and play her favorite slot machines and was very lucky at it. She loved to cook during the holidays for her family and was known for her famous baked beans. Doris loved the scenery going through different states while traveling to Las Vegas with her family. She had a lot of favorites there: her favorite hotel was the Mirage, her favorite restaurant was the Pantry, and her favorite show was Cirque Du Soleil/ The Beatles Love Show, the show had her dancing in her seat. She was extremely impressed with the overall performance and has since always said how she did not want the show to end. She also had the opportunity to travel to Washington DC with her husband for President Obama's Inauguration. Doris was a truly kind and generous person, always helping people out when needed. She cherished spending and talking with her family, friends, and her great grandson Jaceius aka "Jace" whom she loved dearly. Doris was a huge fan of the Ogichidaag and Ogichidaakwe basketball teams. She was immensely proud of all the basketball players, especially her granddaughter's. She was proud of the 2017 Ogichidaakwe team they were the first girls' basketball team in the history of Red Lake to make the State High School Basketball Tournament.

Family that Doris is reunited with are her unborn son, her father Harry Johnson, Jr., grandmother: Madge Downfeather, auntie: Ellen Gurno, nephews: Chris and Kyle Schoenborn, and Jared Johnson, niece: Natasha Johnson.

She leaves behind her husband, Darrell Seki, Sr., sons; Darrell (Brandi) Seki, Jr., Derrick (Heather) Seki, and Michael (Denise) Seki, Sr., daughter; Marida Seki, mother; Susan Johnson, sisters; Darlene Johnson, Linda (Pete) Perkins, and Penny (Eugene) Perkins, brothers; Darrell (Roxanne) Johnson, Steve Johnson, Sr., and Gordy Johnson, special nieces; Dell (Dan) Perkins and Millie Johnson, grandkids; Marla (Marvin) Donnell, Christina Donnell, Corey Donnell, Alyss Mountain, Sara Mountain, Deliah Stillday, Danielle "Dani" (Jamie) Seki, Victoria "Tori" (David) Seki, Michael Seki, Jr., David Seki, Celina Seki, Haleigh Seki, Kailyn Seki, and Darrell "Junebug" Seki, III., great grandkids; Kaleigha Donnell, Marvin Donnell, Jr., and Jaceius Cook; many grandkids, great grandkids, and other relatives.

The wake for Doris will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 12th, 2021, and continue until her 10:00 a.m. traditional service on Wednesday, July 14th all to be held at the Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah, MN. Waa-maajaa'iwed is Steve Jackson. Pallbearers are Brian Seki, Robert Seki, Kelly Perkins, Kip Perkins, Clyde "Sonny" Perkins, Darnell "Barney" Perkins, Dominic Johnson, Daniel Perkins, Jr. Alternate pallbearers are Michael Seki, Jr., and David Seki. Her honorary pallbearers are Kirby Perkins, Tanner Glynn, Janelle Glynn, Katie Perkins, Gena Perkins, Darilyn Johnson, Steve Johnson, Jr., Casey Perkins, Challenge Johnson, Grace Perkins, Holly Johnson, and other family and friends. Interment will be in the Johnson Family Burial Grounds at Ponemah, MN.
