William Milton Richey
February 18, 1936 - June 13, 2021
Willam Milton Richey" Wum" whose Ojibwe name is"Ah-gonabitaung Nah-Gonabitaung- Rising Sun, setting sun", 85 of Red Lake, passed away peacefully at his home on June 13, 2021.
Services will begin 3:00 Wednesday June 16, with a one-night wake at the new Littlerock center and interment at the Richey family homestead in Westend on June 17th at 11:00 AM.
William was born February 18, 1936 in Red Lake, the son of George Marion Richey Sr and Anna Beaulieu Richey. He was raised, educated, and spent his entire career at Red Lake.
He is survived by two siblings George Marion Richey Jr, Red Lake, Julianna Willams, Veblen, South Dakota, his son, Kelly Graves of Red Lake and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, seven sisters, and five brothers.
William retired in 1997 from Red Lake public health after 38 years of dedicated service. Afterwards he took a job at Red Lake Gaming working at Seven Clans Thief River Casino until 2012.
William was the patriarch of the Richey family. He always made sure his immediate and extended family members were taken care of. He set a strong example for his family and others with his tireless work ethic, good humor, and genuine respect for everyone.
In his earlier life he was a commercial fisherman and forestry worker. He loved traveling, listening to pow wow music, collecting classic cars, playing guitar and serving as a caretaker for his elderly parents until they passed. He took in several foster children over the years and opened his door to many in need.
He will be greatly missed.

Wum was truly a great example of a good human being. He will be sorely missed. I loved his easy manner and stories he shared. He took me in like family and I have such fond memories of time shared with him and George. RIP Wum
